Want to know what the 'Optimised for Xbox Series X|S' label means? We've got you covered with this handy little guide.

Although the Xbox Series X|S consoles are technically the next generation of consoles, Microsoft has gone ahead and torn down the wall that used to plague console owners each time a new generation emerged. Gone are the days of having to start a new console generation with only two titles to play, while the previous generation console sat next to it and had a stack of 100 games ready to go. That shall plague Xbox owners no longer!

The Xbox Series X|S consoles are both a new generation of hardware and a continuation of the Xbox ecosystem — allowing you to continue playing OG Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One titles. The Optimised label is technically just that, a way to tell that the title you're buying has been developed to harness the power of that shiny piece of electrical equipment you have nestled under your TV.

The team at Xbox created the Optimised for Xbox Series X|S label, so it's easy to discern if the game was built for the latest generation of consoles as well as the previous generation. This goes for both new titles developed natively using the Xbox Series X|S architecture, and older titles that have been redesigned to take advantage of the power boost.

Optimised for Xbox Series X|S titles can achieve the following:

  • Variable Rate Shading (VRS)
  • DirectX Raytracing
  • Framerates up to 120fps
  • Faster load times than on older hardware
