EA CEO is "very very confident and excited" for the company's future

EA's Q1 earnings call not only showed an increase in revenue for the company, but it also gave investors a chance to ask EA CEO Andrew Wilson about the potential for acquisition in the future.

As reported by IGN, the first quarterly financial call for EA's fiscal year saw the company's CEO Andrew Wilson asked about a potential acquisition of EA in the future, to which Wilson reiterated that the company couldn't "be in a stronger position as a standalone company."

EA is open to the idea of being acquired

Much like we've heard from other companies of late, such as Ubisoft, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson told investors during yesterday's financial call that he is open to the idea of EA being acquired, but it would have to be the right deal. While replying to one investor that had asked about a potential acquisition in the future, Wilson said "Our...objective is always to take care of our people, our players, and our shareholders. Should there ever be a way for us to do that differently than the way we're doing it today, I of course have to be open to that, but I would tell you today we feel very very confident and excited for our future."

There isn't any doubt that Wilson is confident about EA's future after its Q1 earnings call unveiled that it's recorded an overall net revenue of $1.78 billion, which is up $1.55 billion year-on-year. Add that to the fact that when and if Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King is approved — which could be approved by the FTC soon — EA will become the largest major standalone developer and publisher in the industry, and it's easy to see why Wilson is "very very confident and excited" for the future.

Of course, that's not to say that EA isn't in talks to be acquired right now, as we wouldn't know until everything is agreed by both parties. Let's be honest, very few people saw Microsoft's Activision acquisition coming, but it happened.
