Indie oddity Ynglet ditches crazy ARG achievement for Xbox

Luke Albigés - August 10th 2022

We've picked up the Ynglet Xbox achievements for the quirky indie game's launch today, and there's one achievement missing compared to the Steam list... one that purports to require a trip to Denmark.

Ynglet is an abstract and artistically awesome indie platformer-of-sorts, and delivered one of our favourite demos from the Summer Game Fest selection. We note, though, that the Ynglet Xbox achievement list we just pulled in is one lighter than the Steam list, but the absentee makes a lot of sense if you understand what it (apparently) entails.

The missing 101% achievement takes the form of a mini-ARG (alternate reality game) on PC, with a description that simply reads "OneZeroOne.pdf" being all you have to work with. This is supposed to lead players to explore the game's files, where they will find the PDF in question, but its guidance is kinda wild. Most of the steps make up a completely unenforceable wild goose chase that involves starting a fresh save file in Copenhagen, Denmark and touring the surrounding area to play each level at the location that inspired it. In reality, only one part of the instructions actually matters in unlocking 101%, and that's holding the Shift+1 keys briefly during the final cutscene after completing the game 100%. Still, since none of the steps would be realistic on a stock Xbox, it's no surprise to see the quirky achievement get cut for console. It does sound like a fun little weekend break, though. The Xbox list has just ten achievements, and since you can beat the colourful and creative indie title in a few hours, it should be a pretty quick completion, too.
