GTA 6 will apparently receive story DLC in much the same way as Grand Theft Auto IV, a leaker has claimed, and that other reports that mention cities and missions as DLC will "definitely be planned out before 6 releases."As spotted by GamesRadar+, an active leaker on GTAForums by the name of Tez2 has claimed that Rockstar plans to "go back to how they were planning future content before GTA Online success boomed," alluding to the additional story content the developer's previous games like Grand Theft Auto IV received. GTA Online's popularity knocked any Grand Theft Auto V single-player DLC plans off the table, but GTA 6 will apparently return to the original formula.
Grand Theft Auto 6 rumours suggest that story DLC is planned
When asked about the claims made by a recent Bloomberg report that Rockstar plans to expand GTA 6 over time with additional cities and missions — as well as a female protagonist — Tez2 replied saying: "the 'expanding over time' means Rockstar will go back to how they were planning future content before GTA Online success boomed."
Rockstar had said back in 2017 that "substantial additions" were planned for Grand Theft Auto V, but development resources were needed for GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar had been dropping DLC for the series up until V, with Grand Theft Auto IV receiving both The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and The Damned expansions, so it'll be good to see the formula return. Tez2 goes on to say that DLC in GTA 6 will be similar to GTA Online's Cayo Perico and North Yankton areas, so "for the most part we will receive instanced new cities or islands."
Rockstar's upcoming game has certainly been making the headlines recently, and not only due to the company announcing the GTA 6 development is "well underway" or that the team is "determined to once again set creative benchmarks." Bloomberg recently published a report that claimed that Rockstar's ambitions to reform its work culture had slowed development on GTA 6, and that was then followed by a report by Axios that said the company had to streamline its scope for the game, as the initial plan was fairly ambitious.
