The Game Awards confirmed to return in December

Heidi Nicholas - August 23rd 2022

The Game Awards will be back in December, and includes a new category for 2022; that of Best Adaptation, to reward efforts to adapt video game IP into movies, books, and more.

The Game Awards will return on December 8th. The live event will take place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, and the whole thing will be streamed as usual across YouTube, Twitch, and more.

The Game Awards kicks off on December 8th

Last year's event gave us the first look at gameplay for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Saints Row (our Saints Row review is now up), A Plague Tale: Requiem (which recently got its release date), and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, along with other reveals and announcements.

This year's show will add the Best Adaptation category to celebrate adaptations of video game IP to movies, books, podcasts, shows, and more. “The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the gaming industry and its fans to tip its hat to creative work that authentically adapts and often adds lore and context to our favourite gaming franchises... With so many game-inspired projects across entertainment, the time is right to honour excellence in adapting video game worlds to other mediums," explains Geoff Keighley.

The Game Awards returns on December 8th — first, though, we've got Gamescom 2022, which kicks off with Gamescom Opening Night Live!
