Luke Albigés - August 23rd 2022

Destiny 2's next major expansion is coming early next year, with Bungie confirming a February 28th, 2023 release date for the next big content drop, Lightfall — "the beginning of the end."

Destiny 2 players will be heading to Neptune early next year for the next chapter of Destiny 2, Lightfall, as Bungie has confirmed a February release as well as a lot of big changes new locations and a new subclass and damage type, Strand. Check it out in the reveal trailer below.

Neptune's bright sci-fi cityscape should make for a great change of scenery, but it's that Strand ability that has piqued our interest most. That green glow is something we'll apparently learn to master during the expansion, with each class embracing it differently — Warlocks conjure otherworldly projectiles, Titans get twin blades for close-quarters chaos, and Hunters get a cool chained kunai-esque thing to swing around. In addition, the grappling hook ability originally intended to be purely for Hunters will be available to all classes, and it looks extremely satisfying... it's space magic so it can connect to nothing and that somehow still makes sense, and that's fun.

Other upcoming changes include a full in-game LFG system, a player commendation system, revised progression, reworked build and loadout tools, and tons more. Bungie also confirmed that no further expansions will be sunset, and that Destiny 2 is far from done, with lots of work going into making the new/returning player experience a little smoother than it is right now. There are also Fortnite and Fall Guys crossover events coming, among everything else... there's a lot going on in the world of Destiny 2 as the Season of Plunder kicks off today.
