Hogwarts Legacy unveiled a new trailer during Gamescom's Opening Night Live event, and it turns out that almost all of the footage shown was focused on an optional quest line.

Hogwarts Legacy showed up during Gamescom's Opening Night Live to explore dark magic in its new trailer, which was titled Sebastian Sallow's Dark Legacy. According to Avalanche's community manager Chandler Wood, nearly everything shown was part of an optional companion quest line.

It was a surprise to see Hogwarts students discussing the use of the Crucio curse, but Wood emphasises that the companion quests revolving around Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow are optional and focus on a "difficult choice" — if you do choose to take up these optional quests, you don't have to be the one to cast the Crucio curse. As the trailer tells us, "you will be faced with the decision to embrace or reject the Dark Arts as you uncover [Sallow's] family’s mystery through his companion quest line... players will face as they learn more about the Sallow family’s mystery and decide whether to engage with, or even embrace, the dark arts."

Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10th, 2023, for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. What did you think of this optional companion quest line? Let us know in the comments!
