Halo Infinite players get split-screen co-op working using glitch

While 343 Industries may have officially cancelled split-screen local co-op for Halo Infinite, the Halo community has figured out how to get the couch co-op mode working for up to four players using a glitch.

Recently, 343 announced it was delaying campaign co-op and cancelling split-screen co-op outright in Halo Infinite, much to the dismay of players. Now, however, it appears players have managed to get split-screen co-op working in Halo Infinite via a glitch.

As detailed by Halo Creation on Twitter, there is a menu glitch (found by Zeny_IC) in Halo Infinite on Xbox Series X|S that allows you to add up to three additional local co-op players. They claim that the cutscenes and AI using this method all still work without issue. Halo Creation even uploaded a tutorial on how to get the split-screen co-op working— all you need is an Xbox Series X or S and a friend online.

How to play local split-screen co-op in Halo Infinite

  • Go to the Campaign menu and load a save
  • Click on 'Play' and get ready to quickly go to your online friends list
  • As soon as 'Loading Map' appears, go to your friends list and join a friend who's idling in the menus
  • You can then leave the fireteam
  • In the custom lobby, under 'Server', select 'Offline'
  • You can now connect your other controllers and profiles
  • Click 'Play'

While some users are seeing success using this method, others report that it doesn't work at all, so your mileage may vary. Of course, this method isn't supported by 343, so Infinite may display some odd behaviour while using the glitch, and it's possible that it could be patched out at any moment. We also haven't been able to confirm if Halo Infinite achievements still unlock using this method.

In other Halo news, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, one of the best games in Xbox Game Pass, received an update recently that fixed a buggy achievement.

What do you make of 343's decision to cancel split-screen co-op in Halo Infinite? Have you tried the method above to get the feature working? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
