Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was a "major victory," more on the way

Gearbox has said that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands exceeded the company's expectations and was a "major victory," alluding to it being a new franchise with "future experiences" in the works.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands launched back in March for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, taking the dungeons and dragons-style gameplay from the Borderland's 2 DLC, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, and fleshing it out into a full FPS looter-shooter experience. Luke scored it a 7/10 in his Tiny Tina's Wonderlands review, praising its gunplay and numbers-go-up power, but noting that the game's DLC would need to be special if it hoped to hold players' attention — although that ended up not impressing us at all.

During Embracer Group's recent annual general meeting (thanks, Eurogamer), Gearbox Software's CEO Randy Pitchford described the game as a "major victory" and said that additional content is in development.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands could be the beginning of a brand-new franchise for Gearbox

"Wonderlands shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially," Pitchford said. "I'm thrilled to report that in addition to great financial rewards from this victory that will be coming our way in the coming quarters, we have established a firm beachhead".

Pitchford described Tiny Tina's Wonderlands as a "major victory," and that its successful reception from fans and critics means "we now clearly have a new franchise on our hands."

Finally, it was confirmed that new content is in development at Gearbox Software, although it's unclear whether it'll be additional Tiny Tina's Wonderlands DLC or a follow-up game at the moment, with Pitchford only confirming that "future experiences [are] already under development at Gearbox".
