A Plague Tale: Requiem is set to skitter onto Xbox Game Pass soon, and Asobo Studio has now revealed the more-than-unnerving fact that the game will bring 300,000 rats to the screen — as compared to the first game's 5,000 rats.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is just weeks away, and Asobo Studios is sharing new details about the game to prepare players for the game's Xbox Game Pass launch on October 18th — including the fact that 300,000 rats will career across the screen.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will feature 300,000 rats

Hundreds of thousands of rats already sounds bad enough; even more so when considering how much more rodent chaos there'll be from 300,000 rats instead of 5,000. "Rats are central to A Plague Tale, the horror of the game revolves around them, and we wanted to have that multiplied. The first major visual impact is the number of rats appearing on screen. It’s increased from 5,000 to 300,000," says Asobo Studio's Ludivine Guerin. "We’ve also reworked the aspect of the swarms they form; instead of creating whirls as in Innocence, their movement will appear as a giant wave, something like a tsunami of rats... They’ve also become more intelligent, they’ll move with more awareness of the environment, will know how to avoid light better."

Guerin also explains Asobo Studio's decision to bring A Plague Tale: Requiem to Xbox Series X|S and not Xbox One. "We came to this decision early in the process, as we had a shared vision for Requiem; we wanted to create a next step in the adventure, a 2.0 experience, not just a re-enactment of the first game," Guerin says. "So, we quickly came to the conclusion that we had to set ourselves free from old-gen constraints to take complete advantage of the new gen. The game’s scope has grown consistently wider this way, with more content and better life expectancy, and heightened game-specific features such as the rats and the environment, resulting in a much bigger game with a fresh feel."

We'll discover A Plague Tale: Requiem for ourselves on October 18th — don't forget to check out our big list of everything coming to Game Pass to see what else is on the way!
