Xbox Series X|S could get option to disable Quick Resume feature

Xbox Series X|S consoles could feature a way to disable Quick Resume in the future, after Xbox boss Phil Spencer commented on Twitter saying that it's something that'll be "put on the list of things to look at."

Fantastic in most single-player cases, the Quick Resume feature on Xbox Series X|S is arguably one of the best parts of Microsoft's latest consoles, but it has a tendency to cause issues when used with online games. After Twitter user GabeTC suggested that there should be a way to disable Quick Resume (thanks, VGC), Xbox's Phil Spencer replied saying it would be "put on a list of things to look at."

Xbox to look at a way to disable Quick Resume

Quick Resume allows the Xbox Series X|S consoles to keep games in a 'suspended' state when you're not playing them, effectively allowing you to continue playing from where you were the last time you played a game without having to fully boot it up again, even if you've played others since — much like how your phone keeps your apps open. It works well for single-player games, but when it comes to online games like Halo Infinite or FIFA, it can cause issues with the reconnection to the game's servers, forcing you to completely shut the game down and load it back up again anyway.

Taking to Twitter, user GabeTC said: “It’s amazing for a lot of games but when it tries to Quick Resume an online-only game it absolutely breaks it, and you have to manually quit. If only an option to disable it for such games existed.” The post gained the attention of Phil Spencer, who said: "Good feature ask, makes sense. We will put it on the list of things to look at."

If you have ideas or suggestions that you'd like Microsoft to look into, the Xbox Insiders sub-Reddit is the official place to request Xbox-platform features.
