Vote now for January 2022's TA Playlist game

By The TA Playlist Team,
As you explore the beautiful simulated landscape of Mexico in the TA Playlist game for December, Forza Horizon 5, we ask you to pull yourself back from your colour, tropical surroundings in order to vote on the game you want to play to kick-off 2022.

The team have decided to try a new theme, inspired by the fact that games by Double Fine have done so well recently!

For January, we're turning our focus to four games brought to us by the same publisher, specifically List of games published by Annapurna Interactive. We've chosen four of our favourite recent games published by Annapurna, all of which happen to currently be on Game Pass.
Which one will get your vote to kick off January 2022?

The Artful Escape

the artful escape release date

The Artful Escape was developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur and was released only a few months ago (September to be specific).

In it, you play as Francis Vendetti, the nephew of a deceased folk-music legend. Francis is an aspiring guitarist who is desperate to break out of the shadow of his uncle. Everyone expects Francis to follow his uncle into the realm of folk music, but Francis wants to ROCK. Francis wants to blow minds and change lives with his soaring solos, to channel the furthest reaches of the cosmos through an axe and an amp, to musically explore not just the unknown but the unknowable. The kid dreams big... perhaps too big for a quiet mountain town teenager, and so the quest to develop the greatest rock persona ever and become a living legend begins.
Francis' quest leads him on a wonderful, colourful journey across the cosmic expanse, meeting a number of funky characters and bright environments that you interact with via a mix of speaking, platforming and musical call-and-response interludes.

The Artful Escape currently sits at a decent 3.90/5.00 here on TA, with nearly 25,200 of you having started it and just under 10,000 of that number having completed it (a commendable 39%). As mentioned above, it is currently available on Xbox Game Pass and will take you an estimated 3-4 hours to complete. We also have an amazing walkthrough written by ComicKaze23.

Twelve Minutes

12 minutes review

The second game we've chosen was also released earlier this year: Twelve Minutes.

In Twelve Minutes, you spend the entire game in a single room, stuck in a time loop lasting a full 12 minutes (weird that). However, you'd be surprised just how much can happen in those 12 minutes. Your protagonist (the husband, voiced by James McAvoy) and his wife (voiced by Daisy Ridley) make a huge discovery regarding their relationship and something that has happened in the past, leading to them being confronted by a third character (voiced by Willem Dafoe).

When the first sequence has played out, you find yourself trapped in a time loop that constantly resets every 12 minutes, where every choice you make will lead to a different outcome and affect the life of the protagonist couple in many different ways.

Twelve Minutes currently holds a 3.62/5.00 community rating on TA and has been played by over 52000 members. 19% have completed it with an average completion estimate of two to three hours and is available on Xbox Game Pass. In order to make your time a little easier, we also have a Walkthrough written by DynamicWolfNLD what will see easily make all the choices you require.

Last Stop

last stop story gameplay

Last Stop is the penultimate choice for January and also the third to be released earlier this year. It's an adventure game developed by Variable State.

Last Stop tells three interconnected tales featuring three playable main characters: Donna, a spaced-out high-schooler who feels trapped by her stifling home life and her overprotective big sister; John, an overworked middle-aged single dad, with a mountain of debt and the pressures of being an only parent; and finally Meena, a ruthlessly ambitious professional who struggles to find the same satisfaction with her family that she does in the thrill of her work. Once again, choices matter here as you discover how each story plays out and intertwines.

Last Stop currently sits at a community rating of 3.58/5.00 on TA. Over 22,000 people have played it, and over 4,000 (18%) have completed it. The completion is the longest on offer this month, coming in at 6-8 hours, and once again, we have an incredibly useful walkthrough on-site, again written by ComicKaze23

What Remains of Edith Finch

What Remains of Edith Finch Xbox

Our fourth and final pick is both the oldest and highest community-rated game of the four nominated games. What Remains of Edith Finch was developed by Giant Sparrow and released way back in 2017.

Edith Finch is a classic walking simulator with a strong first-person, narrative-based adventure. The game is told through the titular character's narration as she returns to her troubled (and structurally impossible) childhood home.

Edith is the only surviving member of the Finch family. Long before her great-grandfather immigrated to the United States, the Finches were alleged to have been a cursed clan. Each generation would see the majority of its offspring die in unusual circumstances, leaving only one surviving member to carry on the family's apparently hexed bloodline.
Edith's childhood was tumultuous, and she spends much of her time telling you about it as you play through the story.

What Remains of Edith Finch is sitting at a community rating of 4.11/5 on TA with 81,000 players, 64% of which have completed it, which takes an estimated 2-3 hours. The completion is very straightforward, but if there is any section you'd like help with, we have a wonderful walkthrough written by NoHeroes94

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
