Vote now for July 2022's TA Playlist game

By The TA Playlist Team,
As you spend June rolling endless balls of assorted items and other debris in this month's TA Playlist game Katamari Damacy Reroll, it's time to vote for the July TA Playlist game.

July is classically the month for Bean Diving, our shared community event encouraging everyone to ruin their stats and start all the games sitting in their backlogs, with the hope that you'll play the games and finish them as you intended when you first bought them. We're taking this month quite literally through, so every game nominated for the month will feature diving and/or water.

The four games we've chosen are as follows:

Kicking off our nominations is Abzu, an adventure game developed by Giant Squid Games and was originally released at the end of 2016.

In this beautiful little game, you play an anonymous diver in an ocean polluted by machines that are sucking the life from the waters around you. It's up to you to explore and solve puzzles in order to restore the ocean to its untouched form. As you swim around, you'll discover that the ocean is bursting with life, all based on real sea creatures that react to your every move. Beware though, as danger lurks in the depths.

Abzu holds a 3.44 out of 5.00 rating here on TA and is our shortest game for this month, with a completion coming in at 1-2 hours. It's been started by over 65,000 people, with a third of that number having completed it. As always, if Abzu wins the vote, you can unlock an achievement in either stack to gain credit for completing the TA Playlist this month.

Soma is our second nomination. It is an action-adventure developed and published by Frictional Games and was released back in late 2017.

In stark contrast with our first nomination, Soma takes you deep beneath the waves and lets you face the horrors within face-to-face, combining elements of horror within your adventure.

You play as Simon Jarrett, a man who agrees to take part in an experimental medical procedure, which leads to him waking up nearly a century later, finding himself somewhere he doesn't recognise, the PATHOS-II underwater research facility. However, as you find out; the radio is dead, food is running out, and the machines have started to think they are people. You must find out what was happening at the PATHOS-II, and hope you can make it out alive.

Soma currently holds a 4.07/5.00 community rating and is expected to take 8-10 hours to complete. It has been started by a mere 8300 people, with over half that number having completed it (53% to be exact).

Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea Achievements

Our third choice is Call of the Sea

Developed by Out of the Blue and released in late 2020, Call of the Sea is a puzzle/adventure game. Set in 1934, you find yourself playing Norah Everhart, who arrives in the South Pacific (off the coast of Tahiti) looking for her husband who mysteriously disappeared, although not before sending a mysterious letter to Norah.
While looking for your husband, you must search for clues on the small island, visiting each area multiple times in order to collect and piece together the small bits of information you find in order to solve the many puzzles you encounter. Will you be able to find your husband?

Call of the Sea has a 3.75/5.00 rating on TA. A grand total of 24% (nearly 15,700 people) of the game's almost 66,800 players have completed it, with the completion expected to take 6-8 hours. You can currently also find it as part of Xbox Cloud Gaming if you find yourself away from your Xbox at any point in the month.

Song of the Deep

Our final pick for this month is Song of the Deep, an action-adventure/ Metroidvania game developed by Insomniac Games and released back in 2016.

Song of the Deep is a 2D metroidvania-style game that tells the story of a young girl, Merryn, who goes looking for her father after he fails to return from a fishing trip. She builds a ramshackle submarine and goes on the hunt for any clue as to what happened to him. On your journey, your progress will be hampered by the many denizens of the sea, including spike-flinging sea urchins and stinging Jellyfish. Will you be able to find your father?

Song of the Deep has a 3.79/5.00 rating on TA. It can be completed in 10-12 hours, making it one of the longest this month, with nearly 2,500 of the site's nearly 8,000 players have done just that.

Let us know which of these four games featuring diving or water you'd pick to play for July's TA Playlist, and we'll see you at the start of the month ready to begin your dive! dive

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
