Vote now for October 2022's TA Playlist game

By The TA Playlist Team,
As you spend September battling in the streets of Steelport in this month’s TA Playlist game, Saints Row: The Third, it’s time to vote for the October TA Playlist game.

After a theme of reverse Halloween last year, we’re back to regular programming for this year and combining it with a Second Chance month to give you a month of being 'Back from the Dead.' Each game will have been nominated before but didn’t make the cut. Now though, they’re once again fighting for your vote.

The four nominations that we’ve resurrected are:

Left 4 Dead 2

Kicking off our nominations is Left 4 Dead 2, an FPS/action-horror game developed by Valve that was originally released way back in November 2009. It was nominated in November 2020, where it came 4th, behind BioShock Infinite, South Park: The Fractured but Whole and Hitman 2.

Left 4 Dead 2 is set in the aftermath of a worldwide pandemic of an infectious disease that has transformed and mutated much of the human race into zombies, known as the infected. You can play as one of four characters: Coach, Ellis, Nick or Rochelle, who are immune to the disease and must fight their way through areas filled with infected to reach safe zones. Work cooperatively in the campaign with other players (or the AI) to help each other survive the apocalypse and reach each safe zone.

However, if you like a bit more of a challenge, head into Versus, and pit your skills against other players, who control several special infected, each with unique abilities specially designed for killing the survivors.

Left 4 Dead 2 holds a 4.20 out of 5.00 rating here on TA, with a full competition coming in at 20-25 hours (or closer to 30 with all the DLC). It’s been started by just under 257,000 people, with a mere 3% of that number having completed it (7,075). It is backwards compatible.

Dead Island

Dead Island Definitive Edition was developed by Techland and released back in May 2016. Looking at our site classifications, it is an open-world, action-horror RPG. The original 360 version of the game was released way back in 2011. It was originally nominated back in August 2021, when it came 4th, behind Tomb Raider, Fra Cry 3 and Tropico 6.

Dead Island takes place on the lush tropical resort destination called Banoi, off the coast of Papua New Guinea. After a high-profile party, the four main characters are woken by an emergency message telling everyone to evacuate the island, which has been overtaken by plague-ridden flesh-eating creatures. Can you help the survivors to navigate and escape the island?

Dead Island currently holds a decent score of 3.77/5.00 on TA and has been started by over 99,000 users, with only 2% (2,103) having completed it and rounded their score out. The completion is expected to take 50-60 hours.
As usual, if Dead Island wins, you can pop an achievement in either the Definitive Edition or the original 360 release — both will count towards participation.

Dead Cells

Our third pick for this month is Dead Cells, a self-described roguevania, meaning it’s a roguelite-Metroidvania hybrid game. It was developed by Motion Twin and was originally released in 2018. It has been previously featured in two TA Playlists in Jan 2020, but it was a runner-up to Afterparty and in May 2021 where it was second behind Undertale.

Taking place on a sprawling, ever-changing island, you are the Prisoner, a failed alchemical experiment trying to figure out what's happening all around you and discover the secret of the seemingly cursed island. You must explore the island finding it infested with mutated monsters, in order to find the Island’s King, however for you, Death is not the end.

Dead Cells is currently sitting at a rating of 4.23/5.00, having been started by just over 90,000 of you. A mere 173 (less than 1%) of you have completed the game so far, however.
It is available in Xbox Game Pass, and according to our site estimates, you can beat the game in 55-65 hours, including all the DLC. If Dead Cells wins, you can play either the Win 10 or Xbox version — popping an achievement in either game will count.

Dead Rising 3

Our final pick for this month is Dead Rising 3, an open-world, action horror game developed by Capcom Vancouver and released back in 2013. It has been previously nominated for the TA playlist back in October 2017, where it came second to Alien Isolation.

Dead Rising 3 puts you in the zombie-ravaged city of Los Perdidos, California. Do you have what it takes to escape before a military strike wipes out the entire city? As mysterious mechanic Nick Ramos, you’ll rely on improvised weapons to battle off the hordes of undead while you explore the massive open world.

Set 10 years after the events of Fortune City in Dead Rising 2, players are introduced to Nick Ramos, a young mechanic with a strange tattoo and a mysterious past, who must find a way to escape a city full of zombies before an impending military strike wipes the city of Los Perdidos, and everyone in it, off the map. Nick can’t do it alone – he must join up with other survivors to stay alive. They must fight their way out before it’s too late.

Dead Rising 3 has a 4.18/5.00 rating on TA. It has an estimated completion time of 75-100 hours with all the DLC. Just over 216,000 have started it, with only 2% fully completing the game.

Ready to face the dead once more? Which of these four games would you like to win and finally have their chance in the TA Playlist limelight?

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
